Starting a new career path can be tough. Starting a new career path on the cusp of a global pandemic is tougher. But a recent graduate like me, fresh out of classes, obviously already knows everything there is to know about advertising and getting that first job. Ha.
Turns out agency life is pretty different from an advertising classroom. Especially when you’re completely virtual (I swear I’m funnier in person than I am through Zoom).
I learned that I have a lot to learn – like how to perfectly structure wireframes for landing pages, or how many copydecks it takes to please a client (the limit does not exist) – but the experience I got in my time here has reaffirmed that I want to succeed in this industry.
At a time when many agencies closed their doors to interns, I’m incredibly grateful and lucky to have had the opportunity to work and learn at an agency like J59.
Everyone here has been welcoming, funny and supportive. I gained more confidence in pitching ideas and gained a stronger backbone when those ideas didn’t quite make it to the finish line.
But the biggest lesson I learned during this time is that even if there is a global pandemic, no jobs, and you start to question every life choice you’ve ever made, you can still succeed as long as you have the drive to do so.
